Looks quite like the robot Roaming robots built for a kid, although it appears this one doesnt have a buffer:

Ewan Its basically the same robot as I had with me at Bristol, Newcastle, Stoke on Trent and GGHW last year. Just re-arranged inside. It is in no way connected with the roaming robots bot.

Ewan, Ive tried big (300mm) vertical disks with 12v gold motors on BlacknBlue. Sadly they just arent up to the job, even overvolting a bit they take an age to rev up to any sort of speed. Use a cobalt motor like astroflight.

Also a timing belt probably isnt the best to use, as it will probably strip. Use either a V belt or a round belt. If your worried about it slipping when spinning up then maybe look at chain.
