    Please could you put up some pictures of the inside of your robot? It's the most interesting thing I've seen in ages also...where did you get the big dome?

          And here we go...

          First one is a interior view of the robot. The wooden frame was reinforced with metal brackets and originally was a garden platform with castors on. The whole thing was a bit underpowered as the brand-less motors were more suited to Beetleweights and yes, those are SLAs (a pair of 1.2ah for the drive, a 2.1ah for the weapon motor).

          The second one is the shell before painting. The shell was originally a lampshade made out aluminium. I had planned to overlay it possibly with another one or perhaps a garden basket but I ran out of time before Grantham.

          The third one is just before it went into the arena at Grantham. I am pretty sure it was the smallest competitor in there when not spinning. (36cm x 36cm x 22cm).

          The fourth one is the carnage after the melee. Pretty self explanatory.

          The last one is what it looks like at the moment. 20 or so minutes with a hammer and it sort of came back into a dome like shape. The chassis damage was terminal though otherwise it would have entered the last melee on Sunday.

          As for new pictures, there isn't that much to see yet. I decided to forgo a dome/wok for now for a more conventional wedge shape (al a Knightmare) but that doesn't mean I won't try one again. The issue with domes is that because in this case all of it was rounded, it made drilling it a bit of a pain. However, with a wok, they typically have a flat bottom so you could use pillars to the chassis board to mount it centrally.

          The other thing with domes is that they not particularly spacious inside which made the internal arrangements tricky to say the least.

          Ultimately, I want to get the robot rebuilt in time for Insomnia (has anyone heard from them yet?) but if not, more time then before Robots Live! in Stevenage or any whiteboard matches in the meantime.

              hmm when you decide to build a new dome style bot again, why not go for a shell spinner like Blendo from battlebots ?

                I may do. The issue I had/have is that because the whole thing is spinning, you can't place links/lights anywhere but in the centre. I might consider something like a Warhog spinner style but Blendo/Ziggo full body spinners are cleaner to look at.

                Need to rebuild this one first before I can consider building another one.

                  indeed get this one built but this is making me want to design one when i got some free time. Also you could use the LED in under light style like Minotaur

                    Thought LED lights had to be surface mounted or have I misinterpreted the rules on that one?

                        Which motors, hubs and wheels did you use in Honeybadger, if you don't mind me asking?

                          So the original motors were 12v Chinese motors rated at 550rpm which work OK for what they are but they are fairly weedy for Featherweights. No hub, the wheel's bore was simply drilled to match the width of the motor shaft, drifted onto the shaft and then glued into place.

                          The wheels were 76mm aeroplane RC wheels - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122474908321

                          The new stuff is a pair of Gimson 12v 13.7:1 motors with their own wheel hubs. The wheels are again Aeroplane RC wheels but wider and taller by a smidge to try and prevent grounding out issues on the arena floor.

                          The wheel centres are slightly bigger than the hub so it is case of lining it all up and drilling 4 holes into the wheel. Should be done very soon.

                              Been a fairly busy day but now I have a shell! Well... most of it, the side panels need cuttiing and fitting but the top, bottom and rear sections are in. Feels a heck of a lot more stiffer than the old shell.

                              I know there is wood there but it is stiffer variety and is much, much thicker than the original pine (4cm vs 1cm). In time I may replace it with similarly thick HDPE but this works for the moment.

                              The next immediate jobs are:

                              • Drill the mounting holes into the aeroplane RC wheels I got for the wheel hubs.
                              • Motor mounts are roughly built but need grinding a little to let the motor shaft spin freely.
                              • Locate and assemble the drive electronics.


                              With a fair wind and no disasters, I'll have it moving by Wednesday I think. Fingers crossed!
