  • First build, be nice!

Hi all this is going to be my first build, I've spent countless hours reading build alongs and various posts. so happy to finally start putting stuff together! Just planning on building a moving board at the moment just to make sure it all works correctly.

Suggestions welcome, as I'm sure there will be many questions

Looks good so far, lots of familiar parts there!

Any ideas what type of bot you want it to be in the end?

Cheers, Yeah stuck with what everyone else is using in beetles, I'm hoping to build a drum spinner I think depends on access to tools at the moment though. So final designs have not been decided, could turn out completely different to my original idea lol

I like the tie wraps If I've given the world anything, it's the art of tie wrapping motors lol.

Yeah it will do for the moment, can't see it being a long term thing

if you have counter sunk the motors into the sidewalls then just drill through and bolt the motors straight to the sides, thats what alot of builders do also what sort of drum are you planning on building as there are a whole world of options for them

Yeah I counter sunk the motors into the side wall, but the side was had a bit of flex in it so I just strapped the motors to the base. It's only temporary anyway until I decide on a final design. I'm thinking of doing something like 720 with regards to a drum full width spinner. That does depend on my ability to access the equipment needed though.

Nowt wrong with a bit of flex in the bulkhead especially with foam wheels. Fat lip was running for over a year until the motors finally finally broke. They were given a bit of encouragement to break too courtesy of orbit ripping the front off and ripping them apart with a spinner!

If you fix them securely in place they take all the shock and impact.

Well if I'm honest it was a bit more than a bit of flex lol any advice on wheels? Thought I would give these hard foam wheels a go. It no idea if they will hold up or give me enough grip. Have looked at banebot wheels also. Anyone use some sort of rubber bushings for motor mounts?

Stick velcro under the motor and then tie wrap down. Will take a beating all day.

How hot do these motors get then?

Managed to get it running on single stick but I've noticed when I'm pushing the stick forward the left motor is engaging before the right and it doing the opposite in reverse. If anyone could help me it would be much appreciated as this whole thing is new to me.
