  • (BW) Ovorto, first bw/first bot

hi guys was a massive robot wars fan as a kid and always wanted to make a robot, ut never had the skills or money to do so.
fast forward 14 years and it turns out one of my mates is building beetle weights (i didnt even know they made bots this small)
so if suvv can do it....... i can do it (sorry suvv its all your fault)

I wanted to do something a bit different so as most beetles are spinners so im going for a flipper ,
going to try and make all the sides slanted to defend a bit against spinners, my thinking is a side that is at an angle will get more of a glancing blow rather than fool on blow if it was a straight up and down side.

Good list so far - would recommend going over to Ranglebox though and looking for the 1000rpm motors there and possibly getting yourself a pair of Botbitz 10as if Ellis has them in stock. 30A is way too much for those motors, will just take up more space/weight when you really don't need it. Also could look at Lemon RXes for receivers, they're quite small too and will help keep things compact and save you some weight.

If you're looking for materials with which to build the machine out of, I'd recommend looking at some 15mm HDPE or something along those lines and thick alu (6mm or so) or steel (~3mm) for a scoop. Best of luck!

got some of the parts now so have been working on the plans, had some batterys from airsoft left over so they will do for a start

going with the design for now, more for "coolness" than anything else lol

the design has a bridge at the widest point of the bot for a bit of strength and for fixing a shell to, would really like to make the flipper plate out of metal but will been to see how things go on the weight front first

trying to work out how to cram things under the bridge, starting to think its not such a good idea

Welcome to the forum! As Matt said, good list and great start. You're well on the way.

The motors are back in stock now, unfortunately the 10a ESCs will be a while as the supplier (Botbitz) goes through some changes. Hoping to have some in time for the champs in November, though.

The ESCs you ordered may not be reversible. Hopefully they're fine, but most solutions outside of this community are unsuitable for our needs. They should be more clear on the listing. Fingers crossed!

Those ESCs aren't reversible unfortunately. I used one to power the spinning weapon in BitzaWood a couple of years back. Great ESCs, if you want to go one direction....
