Sorry I haven't replied much, I just flew in for the UK robot championships. I was thinking of using a motor shield that would drive the actuator directly, but a smaller one should drive relays just fine. I realized that it will need three relays - 1 to switch the power and two to provide the forward & reverse. Can you post a link to the motor shield you bought?

Right back at you with the lack of replies!
      here ya are.
      Soooooo my idea now.

      Battery-Arduino-motorshield-50A relay-two limit switches
So basically reducing it to two positions, low drag and high downforce. Push button to move wing up into low downforce position, meaning it moves till hits limit switch.
Then second position is activated by brake pedal moving actuator in reverse until it hits the lower limit switch.
Just seems the simplest solution overall.

      Here ya are.
