Thats what 720 uses... with 98mm wheels, pushing power is good, as is speed etc, also they keep pretty cool running on 5s lipo with tz85's

Reliable too, which is more then I can say for alot of the similar setups i've seen.

Would probably run well with smaller wheels on 6s if you wanted.

    • That 16:1 ratio on 75mm wheels in general would work well and be very quick still. Your robot Dave is still abit too fast without turning the dual rates on for most driving. Good to see that your set-up is reliable even with the faster set-up.

      • I run 75mm wheels with 24:1 18v gimsons on 22.2v and that was fast enough! Was probably too quickly really for the robo challenge arena so Im potentially gonna drop down to 12v motors at 24:1 at 14.8v on 55mm wheels for my next bot

        • Got a question for everyone...

I was getting close to settling on a design for Conker 3 when I noticed this...

          Conker 3 - Drum 3.8kg.jpg

          Conker 3 - Whisk 1.8kg.jpg

The drum weighs 3.8kg and has a calculated rotational inertia of 5018448.40 g/square mm.

The whisk weighs just 1.8kg but has an almost identical RI of 4977079.46 g/square mm.

Given the whisk is a while 2kg lighter I could modify the robot to make the whisk wider, ending up with a greater rotational inertia, greater area of contact and I could gear it to spin faster as it weighs less. What do people think.

Note: Both have 20mm of Bite and are the same width; the whisk is just much more efficient with its mass placement.

          • That's so cool. I say go for it! You'll gain about twelve thousand awesome points if nothing else.

[Sorry. Go up a bit to the same as above, only got one reply]

                • Conker 3 has been redesigned yet again!
                  Conker 3.9 - Whisk 3.6kg.jpg
Dave pointed out some flaws with the last design and I had some changes I wanted to make myself so now we are on version 3.9.

The main changes are to the front chassis. The weapon supports have been mixed with the inner wheel supports to allow for the weapon area to be widened. To strengthen the front end, the front is now wrapped in 4mm of Hardox which is bolted in with 9x M8 bolts. If anything hits is then there should be no compression at all from the Hardox or the whisk, which is also Hardox.

The Whisk weighs 3.6kg and has a massive 25mm of bite. Still got 2 Banebots 16:1 gearboxes with RS775 motors running at 6S, though I may drop to 5S, and controlled by TZ85A's. Weapon is driven buy a Scorpion HK-4035-800 off 10S, with a Scorpion Commander 50V for the ESC.
Currently it weighs just under 12kg with the top armour missing, pulleys, bearings and electrical gubinz so I will probably have to loose some weight somewhere but it can be done!

                  • Just fit some of that high-tensile MDFium stuff you used at the champs, that'll keep you in weight

Nice redesign though, looks better with the wider weapon IMO

                    • Well, thet High-Tensile MDFium stopped you from doing any major damage. The lights cost £3 each and the MDF probably not even a £1. If I had used HDPE it would have cost even more!

And the design has changed again... Its now a mix of 3.9.0 and 3.8.0... Wider weapon but I am keeping the vertical bulkheads. So now I am on version 10!

                      • Getting close to what I think will be the final version of Conker 3.
                        Version 3.10.5
                        Conker 3.10.5 Render 02.JPG
4mm Hardox Front End, 2mm Ti Top, Bottom and sides, Aluminium 2014/7075 Chassis.
The weapon weighs 3kg and will do 7100 rpm at full speed. With a bit of help from david, I compared it to 720's drum at full speed and it has 14% more inertia; compared to 720 at 13'500 rpm.
Its also got 25mm of additional bite as its asymmetric so engagement will be pretty dam good.
                        Drive is a pair of Banebots 16:1 gearbox's with 18V RS775's, over-volted to 22.2V.

                          • I'd put a spike or something on the side as it's currently very stackable against the side of the arena

                            • This happened a few days ago but Conker 3 now has 4mm Hardox on the sides and front and has ended up 900g lighter!
The CAD is a mess as it wasn't designed to be changed this much so its a bit of a hack job but its all there.
                              Conker 3.11.1.jpg
I am not sure what to do with the extra weight. I am tempted to thick up the Ti but I am also considering sloping the Hardox.
