Well back from Dublin where Kronic got to the final. Very pleased with the improvements, its drives so much better and having the angled back allows it to drive off wedges etc. First fight the ram moved, turns out i had forgot to put the nuts on 2 of the bolts holding the ram down! Second fight the burkerts got stuck open due to swarf out of the buffers getting in. The 3rd fight was gainst UFO in the first round of the competition, where it went through easily (UFOs valve has been playing up), 2nd round against Big Bro where I flipped him aorund the arena until he got stuck. Semi-Final against IA6, this has to be one of the closest and exciting fights, with the most flips ever in a single fight! Kronic got the win from the judges, but could of gone either way. The final was against a in form Ripper, Ripper won on a Judges decision, another good fight with each robot having their moments on top, I'll have you next time Jonno! The last fight was the top 4 ( Ripper, Beast (Much improved), IA6 and Kronic) but with all the drivers swapping, another great fight, one of the gearboxes broke in the near the end (thats what happens when you let Mr Lear near your transmitter!).
So overall very pleased with the results, just need to fix the gearbox and its ready for the next event.
Managed to get the mechanoid base running as well, but didn't drive as well as i hope, just needs weight moving forward. Only got a couple of runs with it as i was fighting in 16 of the 19 shows!
Didnt manage to get any pics of videos, but i think others got them, so i'll link them when they apppear.
Well Kronics done 3 events now, and got to the final in each one, not bad going! It currently weighs 93kg, so abit of weight for added top armour. Few other things that need sorting are the drive axles, as they seem to be bending so need a stronger material, also had an issues with the pneumatics at Whitwick, if it turns out to be the Burkerts i might pull them out and put a ball valve in (probably 3/4) if it was something else causing it, i will probably just add a 3rd inlet Burkert with an extra buffer. Other than that, really happy with it.
After Kronics sorted, i will start on building one of two new heavies. The first will be a heavyweight version of 'Lola' (don't ask!), i might try to do a detailed build video diary on it. After that i will throw together a LP flipper.
Still not decided yet what to do with the valves, will have a look this week to see what happened at Whitwick. Don't know if i can be bothered with the hassel of ball valves.
The new Knightmare is underway, its based on our featherweight kit. Not built for competition, just for abit of fun and for the smaller shows we do. Few pics, more are posted on our Facebook page, as its too much hassle trying to get pics on here;
Currently running a pair of 4QD NCC70s, really could do with something better, but the idea is that it will use Kronics Wotty360 at the expo events, but at events where Kronics running then it will have to be on the 4QDs. If it all works ok then maybe upgrade it at some point in the future.
It will be at Scotland, the wheels are pneumatic, but will get them filled with something but don't know if that will be done for Scotland, in which case it won't be going in with nipper!
Hi Alan
Looking good nice to see another O/H thwack robot.
Just a couple of questions what ratio will the final drive be, and are you using Bosch 750 motors with this?
