  • CHIMERA WILL RETURN TO COMPETITION

After about 5 years of gathering dust and enormous spiders/webs I have decided to revive the Chimera, some people may remember it from some of Jonno's live events.

It was derived out of parts left over from the many Robot wars series I appeared in -check out and type in: series 7 heat H into the you tube search to see Metalis in action.

The running gear will remain the same but with more reliability but I'm developing a new front weapon system.

Its a heavyweight of course and I hope to show everybody at a live event later in the year.

sounding good, I never had the pleasure of seeing Chimera myself but I'm dedicated (or, alternatively, sad) enough to remember and hold...memories...of all your previous forays into RW, so quite looking forward to seeing this in action.

Do you have any pictures of it in action when it last competed?

Re: CHIMERA WILL RETURN TO COMPETITION

Ok the Chimera is not quite on schedule but progress has been made this weekend,I have designed a motor cradle for behind the nose cone and now have a heavy duty driveshaft for the weapons system which i think is unique.

As from previous form the project will get completed and be competition next year.

Iam looking to purchase a cim motor if anyone is selling.

Re: CHIMERA WILL RETURN TO COMPETITION

            Hi again
More construction undertaken this week on the Chimera, guess its because I can't access the x box-but that may be a good thing it allows progress.

Bought 3 brand new bearings of e bay and they are perfect.

I have been stripping down parts from a previous robot-Immortalis as seen on series 5 of robot wars against exterminator.
This was based around a dodgem car chasis and was a one wheel drive one wheel steer system and was a real dog to drive,in fact its steering broke as soon as we were lit up by the super trooper in the arena but I wanted a bash so we did our best(check it out on you tube you'll see what I mean, type in immortalis robot wars.

anyroad I have taken a drive sprocket off it to increase the torque coming from the weapons motor which I intend to put on the drive shaft.

Cutting blades from an old landrover chassis, they are in 8mm steel.
Awaiting delivery of a powerfull drive motor from e bay.

More pictures of robot as progress is made.

Re: CHIMERA WILL RETURN TO COMPETITION

The answer is no,Immortalis was built around a dodgem car base and no parts at all were used from death warmed up apart from the 40mhz reciever.
On another subject while Iam here,I was hoping to get the Chimera to barnsley for its first fight of 2011 but the cold weather put me off working on it,but should be ready very soon.
