    Re: The Mighty Seraphim

Just fitted the new Wotty to Seraphim it is quite quick about 10 mph the battery pack needed some repair then off down the grass out side my house.
Every time I operated the sword the robot got stuck in the ground. This will be a lot of fun to drive. Hope to get some videos up and going soon.

        Wow, that is nippy

I may have to reconsider my earlier comment about Carcinus' claws being wide enough to be able to grab the wheels. That will only be possible if I'm able to catch the damn thing first!

            Re: The Mighty Seraphim

That could actually do some damage to some feathers !! Especially with soemthing pointy stickingout the side of its arm so it would be like a hybrid thwack bot.

              Re: The Mighty Seraphim

Yes this time damage is possible

The sword is made from an old car spring, so the steel is quite hard (and sharp), the motors rotate at 140 rpm at 12v I'm running them at 14.4v if the robot is going fast forward, and is slammed into reverse the swing time for the sword is about 0.1 seconds or 100 milliseconds!
When testing the robot outside on the grass the sword travels so far into the ground it pins it to the spot.
I'm lookin forward to next week

                  Re: The Mighty Seraphim

Doing some work on Seraphim today trying to get the weight down, also trying to sort out the housing for the Speed controller and battery so they take a lot less shock when the sword hits. This caused intermittent failure of the drive last time and I want to get the reliability as high as possible for this year.
To do this I am making the top a bottom panels out of 6mm instead of 10mm plastic this should save about 800grams, also I have taken a little from the side panels this should save another 100grams. The main single weight in this robot are the motors these weigh 1500 grams each and the gearboxes are 500 grams each. With the wheels hubcaps and drive shaft assemblies this amounts to 4Kg each so over half the weight is in the drives alone. This leaves only 5,600 grams for the weapon, speed controller, batteries, wiring, link and the robot body!

                      Re: The Mighty Seraphim

Got Seraphim going today and it worked ok, sometimes when I used the sword to hit the drive! The robot will cut out for about 3 seconds and then start again I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to why?
My idea is, for a moment the power is lost and the RX has to re-connect the signal what do you think?

                        Re: The Mighty Seraphim

well in block of wood i use a sabertooth dual speedo and if i hit full throttle staright away it won't go immediatly i think its the speedo saying it can't provide all the power at once but if i start low power and build it up it works fine not sure if this might be same thing???

                              Bash, bash, bash!

I'm looking forward to seeing it fight the spinners at this years' UK champs Craig. Could be very interesting.

                                Yes

I'm planning some bonkers wheels for it so it may not win the fight but you will love the way it looses
