  • My new robot W.Y.S.I.W.I.G in the making

I'll have my 4th featherweight robot called W.Y.S.I.W.I.G (What You See Is What You Get). W.Y.S.I.W.I.G was a featherweight entry in the first series of RW that was driven by Michelle Wheely in RW UK. The robot also competed in the USA Robot Wars back in 1996 with Eric Dickinson. She is not fully build yet, but we do have the hardware for her (nuts, screws, etc.). She'll either have a 2mm thick aluminium chassis or a wooden one. The parts will include a Tamiya TEU101BK ESC and 068 Sport Tuned motor, carson chrome wheels, an Acoms 40mhz 2 channel transmitter pack, 2 Ansmann QD9 Ni-Cad battery packs for ESC.

EDIT: Scratch that, I was about to mention how it was a robot already but I seem to have missed reading that in your post sorry

    Good luck with the build

That was the size of the original W.Y.S.I.W.Y.G, and the receiver is a 2 channel.

I could either be a wedge to topple opponents over w/brute force, or a 4 bar lifter like Storm 2/Bio-Hazard/Griffon.

If you're going with a wedge, then I would probably put the wheels somewhere that's not the middle. As soon as you try to go forward with the wheels in the middle the front of the wedge comes off the ground and is pretty much useless unless you can weigh it down somehow.

Also, for an active weapon you'll need more channels on the radio.

I could get a 3 channel Carson transmitter pack too. W.Y.S.I.W.Y.G in series 1 had it's wheels in the middle as I believe.

Would the 2 540 direct drive motors have enough power to move the robot?

Yes, I'm sure the 450 motors will be quite good, don't you think?

Will they be geared down in any way?

I'm sure an easy way to fix them down is with tape.

...no offence meant, but you might want to look up what 'gearing down' is

may i suggest cordless drill motors, yeah everyone uses them , but they are good , they are a similar size to the motors you suggested , but about twice the length, may i also sugest blue wheels to go with your order of drill motors
