Pretty sure that's not allowed, as it's basically a cam walker - the legs are powered directly off a unidirectional rotational mechanism.

      Hi Nick

I would call that a walker
As the legs support the whole weight, and the legs leave the ground to take the next step in a linier motion.
I can€™t see the problem, but this is a job for the FRA to rule so lets see what they say.

What do others think about this?

To be honest with you I think it's a shuffler but if it is allowed then putting the slide rails in the legs would mean less sticking out the top of it.

It looks similar to the mechanism used on scuttle off of technogames which was insanely fast (but still not a walker in my book.)

          Re: THE LONG WALK!!

Just wondering dose anyone have or know of a two-channel speed controller, that can handle about 25 amps @36volts. I have decided to over volt the motors I have, and see how they perform even if I don€™t use this voltage for The Pilgrim I would like the option I know the sabertooth which I was going to use is only up to 24v thanks.

            http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/RS-RS80D.html ?

Only other option I can think of in a single unit is a Vantec, I don't know if the Scorpions will handle 36v?

              Hi Joey
I had thought of that one but it is a bit too powerful there must be a smaller unit that can take 36v perhaps for some featherweights use a speed controller that takes 36v or more.

Here are some pics of the two pods together so you get an idea of the type of thing it is

the next task is working out how to connect the two pods without getting the legs messed up!!

That's looking fantastic, Craig. Can't wait to see it in action, bravo.

The robot is looking awesome. What is it going to be promoting exactly?

                          Re: THE LONG WALK!!

A promotional device can be used to promote almost anything but the two main reasons are: -
1/ About a year ago we lost our youngest child Nathan, he was bourn with a thing called Edwards Syndrome. We were cared for by the Helen and Douglas House Hospice, their work and help at this difficult time was invaluable to us as a family. A father who has had to carry his baby son€™s coffin to the front of the church has experienced a pain that cannot be imagined and I would wish it on no one! So I want to make something that can be used to help raise awareness of their good work and raise some funds for them too. You can€™t run a heavy weight robot in a shopping centre as it may kill someone. But a slow walker with some posters on would be an interesting diversion to all the jaded shoppers on Saturday afternoon and they might put some money in the bucket.
2/ as discussed on other parts of the forum we, as a movement have to address the future. I initiated a thread on the subject a few months ago and one of the ideas I liked was to help the EOs to promote their shows, so I wanted to make this robot to help any EO with their promotion if they wanted it. We have to be seen to be known, TV is over so we as a movement have to promote ourselves by whatever means we can.
This is my effort, to everyone reading this what will be yours?

                            Re: THE LONG WALK!!

Now I'm feeling sad. I hope the promotion goes well for what is a worth while cause.

As for promoting combat robotics I have a pair of rumble robots that I have dismantled to make two driving bases and plan to make controlable from a distance (using long wires or some sort of cheap rc system, I'm undecided).

I was just going to use them personally for fun/ driving practice if I built a proper robot but I suppose they could be used as a promotional tool like the robochallenge mini arena (but rubbish and cheap)

get them either form robotsolutions.com direct or robot market place

                              hope this helps

That's it I've made the frame for the two pods and painted it silver, as this seems to be the best colour for this robot. Here are a couple of pictures of the frame and the pods minus the legs at the moment.

                                http://s569.photobucket.com/albums/ss13 ... GA5137.jpg

The next part is to sort out the drive on the second pod this means I will have to wait for some parts through the post.
