thats electro luminiscent wire (EL wire ) it requirs about 2.5 KV input to work , but inverters are available , i think maplins sell it if you are after some , most people use it in custom pc cases

          Hi all

this is a picture of the drive pods the motors are in and the transmision is going ok. the walking pace will be about 42 per minute, I have had the leg bushes machined up they are made from Oilon oil impregnated nylon.

            Re: THE LONG WALK!!

OOps it is a bit big!!!
Next to the dustbin you get an idea on how big the walker is going to be, it is about 1.5mtrs long and just under 1mtr high at the moment but finnished it will stand just over 1 mtr tall.

I hope i can get it in the van

                Re: THE LONG WALK!!

Some pictures so far on the walker
I now have 4 legs sub assemblies so when the support brackets are finished I will be able to dummy up the first pod to see if it actually walks!!

Also I have dug out some 12 amp/hr batteries for the power, I will probably have one battery in each pod with connecting wires between them.

                      Jordan

It might be a bit hard if you want to make that walking robot out of Lego try this type.

Just to keep you up to date

Pictures of the 6 legs finished only 2 to finish and some of the bracket assembly to connect the legs to the pod. These I have made adjustable so I can vary the distance from the crank to the leg pivot I think this dimension will be quite critical and I don't know exactly what it should be!!

                        http://s569.photobucket.com/albums/ss13 ... GA5036.jpg

I have found this project so far to be very interesting to do I hope the result will be entertaining for whoever watches it go.

                            That's some hypnotic leg movement

Well done Craig, the build seems to be coming along really well! Best of luck for the rest of it

                                Re: THE LONG WALK!!

Hi to answer your question on how long it will take. I hope to get the first pod to a stage that all 4 legs will operate with a cobbled up battery by next week.
If I can keep working on it through most of August I hope to get the second pod going.

I have a feeling the robot will never be €œfinished€, as I will probably keep adding bits for years to come but I want it to be sort of ready for the winter tour.

I think with all 4 sets of legs going it will be quite hypnotic
