  • my beetlewight robot

I've set to get my first beetleweight robot up & running which will be themed on a snooker player the great hurricane Alex Higgins, which is going to be a fast moving electric axe.

I'm currently adding gear boxes from 2x 3v dc como motors & 1x 24v dc como motor to 3x 15v como dc motors, but I want is to get brushed speed controllers to have same 15v's as the motors which I couldn't find. 2 of the motors will be at the back attached to the back wheels & will have a belt & pulley system attached to the front wheels & 3rd motor for the axe will be linked to cam's to move the axe.

As there's no 15v brushed speed controllers & instend I got is turnigy brushed 20amp speed controllers (8 of them so got spears) to turn 12v 1000rpm geared motors that everyone else uses, I just wanted to know if turnigy brushed 20amp speed controllers over heat or are the turnigy brushed 20amp speed controllers meant to be use for featherweight (somebody told me that I need 20amp speed controllers for my featherweight, which now I got them they are small to be use as featherweight speed controllers)

If turnigy brushed 20amp speed controllers no good for beetlewights robots, what could weight class robot could I use them in. I'm planning a robot in the future which the turnigy brushed 20amp speed controllers could be useful.

Here's the brushed speed controllers that I got.

Unfortunately the Turnigy Brushed 20amp speed controller are only single direction speed controllers. They have no reverse function as they're intended for propellers on model aeroplanes or some types of RC car. For a robot, it means you can go forward and turn (moving one wheel forward at a time) but you won't be able to go backwards, which isn't an ideal setup for our application.

Apart from one member of team nut from robot wars that do beetleweight speed controllers that was mentioned on Facebook, do other beetleweight team get their brushed or brushless speed controllers on hobbyking website?

I got mine from Ellis at ranglebox.com however they seem to rarely be in stock these days I'm actually waiting for one of the beetle escs from Rory to arrive at the moment, hopefully they will be a good replacement
