  • Power Transmission

Was wandering what wire you guys use for electrical power transmission. I bought some 15A wire but I am pretty sure its overkill its about 3-4mm diameter and feels unwieldy to get into the chassis. Also for beetleweight would you reccomend a removable power transmission circuit to transmit power from the battery to the rest of the components or just solder everything together directly. I think in my build space is becoming an issue so anything that helps. Thanks Dave.

I use a mixture of 24 and 20AWG wire, but that's on quite a low current design! I think for most beetles 16AWG is going to be the largest size you'd ever need unless you're doing something particularly insane. As for using connectors, it depends whether you think you'll be replacing components regularly or not - if you're not likely to be, just solder everything together.

Just checked my motors have a combined peak current of just over 40A so I think 21AWG wire should be okay. Didn't know about the wire standard so assumed that the 15A on the wire mean amps. Now I know, Thanks.

No problem! (other wire gauges are available, I've just got used to AWG because it's what I can buy from Hobbyking in nice silicone flavours you can rub your face on!)
