I am going to build a Beetle weight as my first bot. Can anybody recommend what wheels and motors to go for. It looks like I would like the 1000rpm motors but have no idea how to attach the hubs. I really have no idea and could seriously do with some help please

1000rpm motors are a good start as they're not expensive and you can find lots of em on ebay and regular robot sites
People tend to use fingertech wheels and hubs from technobots among others
you can also order something like these and then drill the axle hole up to fit the motor shaft. and its possible to drill and tap for grub screws aswell: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...5pcs_bag_.html

You will have to root through some of the menus as the stuff is American and so a lot of the screws and circlip pliers are in American sizes. I got fed up with it so I use these wheels, hubs, motors and brackets.

Word of warning...DO NOT USE THE STANDARD GRUB SCREWS!!
Go to Maplin and buy a £10 assortment box of M3 and M4 screws that you can tighten properly. Then screw your motors to the brackets, wheels to the hubs, hub/wheel tightened onto shaft then tie wrap the whole lot down to your base plate. This is a crude way of doing it, but it's quick n easy and got me nearly to the final of the UK Champs. See below my weird robot, specifically the motors. You will need to solder wires onto the terminals.

One last questionI've been looking at xt30 and xt60 connectors, would the xt30 connectors be fine with say 18 AWG 19v wire to run these 1000rpm motors? Also thinking of running a brushless motor as well using the same set up or would I need to go with something like xt60 and 14 AWG?

18awg would manage the gearmotors but will be too small for a brushless. You'd need the bigger stuff for a brushless setup as they pull a lot of amps. If you're gonna use a brushless make sure the battery can supply the burst current the motor will pull. I use cheap 3s lipos as all they do is spin a couple of drive motors, but if you're going to use a brushless you will need a more expensive battery that can give out the current it will pull.

Ah thanks, I'm assuming the xt30's would be fine though as they can handle upto 30 amps? I've bought a zippy 1000 25c battery not sure if that will be up to the job but to be honest I'm looking just to build a moving robot first. Spinner will come much later on I think.
