  • Spinner Brushless motor help

I`m looking at powering a spinning disc with a brushless motor but I`m new to brushless.
I want a low profile one to fit under the disc and have seen this

But what is the difference between multi-rotor and one like this?...

    http://www.hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking...ner_Motor.html

I want to aim for around 30A maximum and 11.1v
(The above are for examples, not necessarily what I`ve chosen)

Are you doing direct drive or through a gearbox (or other reduction system)

        Hiya.

I would go for a standard type of motor. I know you said those are examples but the plain outrunner is half the weight, a fraction of the size, faster and more powerful. I think this is generally true for most types. Also I think a 28-40 outrunner or a 3530 is about good sizing for a beetleweight spinner.

Gone for a Turnigy D3530/14 1100KV Brushless Outrunner
            https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...dProduct=35192
            and a 40A ESC
            https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...dProduct=36846

When I start building it I`ll set up a diary thread.

I expect that to pull around 250w on 3s. That sounds comparatively low to other beetles but I'm confident others are often way overpowered. It will be interesting to see how it does, as the class grows in the UK what will and won't work will become more obvious. When put into proportion with feather weapon motors from a few years ago, 250w should be buckets for a beetle.

With that speedo you have masses of room for an upgrade anyway.

Look forward to the build thread! I can't wait to get stuck into beetles again.

Yes an upgrade will most likely happen anyway, my approach is always get the thing working first then see what you can push it to :-)
