My new beetle

For my new beetle I'm going to have 2.4kg servos for drive a 7.4v battery a 7ch reciever
With goes with my ant weight controller and a brushless motor and lots and lots and lots
Of steel is this ok for building a beetle weight?

you won't need a speed controller with servos (they have them built in). also 2.4kg servos may be a bit underpowered, i think i used 4kg+ ones in kookaburra. steel as armour is fine as long as it's in weight.

By 2.4kg do you mean 2.4kg cm? If so they would be powerful enough, but may be a little slow, but if it's designed well then it would be fine, and with a brushless you need the right speed controler, so do you have the web links for the parts? As it means people can check to make sure the parts would work well together. And instead of making topic after topic in the future, just ask your questions on this one.

i assumed he means kg/cm. the problem is that regular hacked servos are very slow (unless you use giant wheels like kookaburra). thats why most people speed hack them that reduces the torque dramatically.

Yes I know, but that's still descent power, even with huge wheels, I'd have though that would have enough power.

its on the very low end, and if you can get 6kg servos for 4 quid then why bother with anything less.

My ant is slow but turned out good so my beetle weight may be slow but it might be good or even great maybe super duper double great! I think I will call it BANG! Cause I used to have a robot called BANG!

Hey, you wont get super duper double great at the first attempt. Jonno's been trying to make Ripper like that for ages and has only managed super!!

2.4kg/cm means thats how much the servo can lift on a 1cm arm btw. so it would be just 0.24m nm (newtons/metre). servos haven't been trialed enough for bw's to really know what kind of torque is required but in antweights the smallest servo you can really get away with for speed hacked drive is 0.9kg/cm. over 5x the weight of an aw in g/cm.

long story short, better to go overkill with the kg/cm imo. the difference in weight/price really doesn't matter unless you're especially tight on weight.

How do you speed hack servos ?

Typically it's remove the bottom gear on the output shaft and glue the two gears on the middle shaft of the servo together.

I'm sure I have a picture of how the gears of the MG90s servo go together if you want a something visual.
