  • Hello! Not quite a newby but first beetle.

Hi! First Id like to introduce myself im Angus from Sydney, Australia. Im 15 (almost 16) and have been building robots for sometime now. So far ive only really build one really compeditive feather called cataclysm (the one in my profile) which did quite well at its first event, only to get destroyed by a vert bar spinner landing a lucky shot on the side and jolt, a magmotor bar spinner writing it of in the melay at the next!
Im now getting into beetles as they are much easier to transport and can be built quicker and with more accuracy than i can build featherweights. Just one question.
With the scorpion ESC, is it possible to add a drop down drill weapon onto the AUX without having to add a reciever battery and altering the scorpion allowing a servo? I was thinking of an solenoid of some sort but they seem to lack the power and travel that kind of application would need (their rather pricy too!).
    Thanks in advance!
By the way this will be its current compeditor, Slash (built by nick who built jolt).

Hello! Not quite a newby but first beetle.

Your better off posting this question over on the RFL forums, Angus. Most antweights use hacked servos which dont require a speed controller like the Scorpion.

Hello! Not quite a newby but first beetle.

That is a really nice beetle that you have! Looks kind of high, do you have any Gyro problems? Anyhoo, I am not really sure what you are trying to ask in your post here. But I will try to answer to what I think you want to know.

        - You can have 2 drive motors with a scorp and 1 AUX weapon, they will all be run by the 1 unit. The scorp also has a BEC that sends power form your main batt to the Rx. It is a nice little unit and I have used it in most of my bug bots. Now I use the banebots due to size, but they dont have a AUX.

As for as a drill on the Aux channel, that sounds like it would be a little large. Make sure you get the numbers on it before you hook it up.

I have used them alot and have not had one blow, feel free to ask more if need be.

Hello! Not quite a newby but first beetle.

yea looks very cool mate well done, as far as beetles go there fina on here under the ants the FRA is supposed to be about running all kinds of robots so dont see why beetles and 1lbers and super ants oh and fleaweights cant come under this section there all much of a muchness anyway. My ant uses the same technology as beetles and 1lbers never used a scorpion board thou, this time ur proberbly better on the RFL forum

Ive settled on a simpler spinning bar design anyway, heres afew pics of my prototype frame (non combat). Also let me test the electronics. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v424/dyrodium/PA110063.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...m/PA110063.jpg
