  • Overvolting Motors

Does anyone know how well those tiny gear motors that everyone uses stand up to being over volted double?

    Cheers!

Well the nominal voltage is 6v but they run quite happily on 7.4v(2s) lipo
I belive Dave W has successfully run F.I.N on 11.1v (3s) but with a fully charged 3 cell that seems a bit risky.
I would only overvolt the pololu model ones (2 cell) the cheap ebay ones are probably terrible quality and wouldn't like overvolting.

Archie's correct, I've ran the Pololu HP motors at 11.1v for years with only one burn out (gunk in the gearbox).

The motors should be fine as long as you aren't running them too hard or for too long. Careful with the Speedo though, as the HP motors will draw big amps at 11.1v.

These are ebay cheapo ones, just figured it would be an easy way to get some speedy drive if they can handle the overvolting.

            Thanks guys!
