Ok, so i want to build a pneumatic ant, but what armour would you recommend? I don't particularly want to use metal, I'd much rather use a light but spinner proof plastic. Would 2-3 mm acrylic work? or would i be better with thin HDPE?

    Thanks in advance

    Re: Plastic

to be Complexity proof you need about 4mm+ but 1mm titanium should do the job

        Re: Plastic

Polycarbonate or polypropylene are the way to go, or nylon works...1 or 1.5mm should protect you against most spinners, the trick is to not give them an edge to catch on.

I can only echo the comments already here. 1-2mm polycarb should suffice, probably all you can afford in weight for a pneumatic ant.

          Avoid Acrylic like the plauge!

                Re: Plastic

grade 5 ti is the point where it gets hard to bend. I use 0.5mm Ti on my ants, fairly resistant to spinners, they'd never get through 1mm grade 5.

I happen to have copious amounts of polycarb at 4, 6 and 10mm thick if you only want a small peice. Drop me a PM if you want some.

would the 4mm polycarb be reasonably spinnerproof?

yeh it would be very spinnerproof

                      Re: Plastic

Indeed but probably too heavy to use for larger pieces

                        Re: Plastic

I used to use 4 and 6mm polycarb for my ants' side panels. On Baby hell (6mm) they were only 14mm high and about 80mm long, so they were fairly light. I had to change to 6mm HDPE to get 4WD into the weight as well as the axe.
