  • Hypno-disc

    Hi
I'm building my first robot, which was previously a feather weight, but i put that project to one side for some antweights. Anyways..

I was wondering if it would be possible to build a mini hypno-disc? If it would be, what would i use for the spinner? Would Scalextric car motors work?

    Thanks in advance

    Re: Hypno-disc

yes it would be possible, for the spiner motor most people use small brushless motors. they're alot easier and better than trying to use some sort of brushed system. as for motors i don't have any experience with scalectric ones but most people use these:

they're nice and lightweight at 10g and give a good amount of power

It would be possible, but four motors, a fifth for the weapon, a servo for self righting and armour is a lot to fit in 150g and a 4 cube.

I could swear this question's been answered elsewhere though?

        Wasn't 180 a ant or was it a bettleweightt?

yeh 180 was a beetleweight. maybe you could call your antweight 90

90 Was my Idea xD, Look on teh Kilobot section But Feel free to do it though I've lost motivation in it ;D

                  Re: Hypno-disc

Its one of those things that people dream of
and yet no one seems able to do I think because
of the disc to be accurate it would have to be
massive leaving little space for components
I designed one but I had to put the servos for drive
underneath the disc pushing it higher up so it would
not have been able to hit anything

                    Re: Hypno-disc

It wouldn't have thought that would be much good combat wise, because of how far it would get pinged away at that scale. The featherweight Hypno-disc someone made, awesome as it is, can easily go beserk, due to scaling dimensions and power, when, well... physics remains the same.

I don't know much about it, but antweights are really the realm of the vertical spinner, right? What successful horizontal spinning antweights have there been?

Could you compensate by running spinners at a lower speed, and making the blades from the strongest, densest, most sharpenable (not a word) metal you can find? Like some tungsten alloy?

                      Re: Hypno-disc

There have been quite a few successful horizontal spinners, mainly built by Peter Waller :P VariANT, MilitANT, Fleabite, Divinity, ANTipathy, and a few of MutANT's incarnations (among any others I have forgotten) are all horizontal and all rather good.

do you remember mgm3 my horizontal spinner joey? it was at last aws. had problems with the esc and didn't spin

i'm currently working on mgm4 with a new esc but having problems

I do, I wasn't counting it as it didn't really spin :P hopefully the new one should though, good luck with that.

yes, got the bar fitted. it keeps beeping then spinning for 1 second. i'll try it again with a recharged battery
