Replaced the green banebots which are pretty worn down for orange ones. Will keep the greens as a spare.

Also just slapped a hdpe baseplate on to see if it made much difference to clearance. That and the new wheels make such a change. If Alex's arena floor panels are flatter than the other arena then I will be doubly happy.

Borrowed an NTM from Tweedy's new vertical just to see how it would fit on Egg. Looks promising but the 3mm shaft makes me cry. The longer, more powerful (better suited probably) but unfortunately heavier 2836's have a 4mm shaft which would be a direct replacement.

Rethought the wheel guards and rear armour. 2mm ti. I have some real cheesy grade stuff so the bend shouldn't be an issue.
Bolted on the front with a standoff two thirds up supporting it. I could angle but have no real desire to.

    Thoughts?

    Welp.

In the end Eggy turned out like this. Not 100% happy with it but I fixed a lot of the problems I've had in the past. Gave up with my radio gear and borrowed a set off Ellis (whattaguy) which meant it at least ran properly.

Event was pretty fun despite lack of robots, I came third out of six (aw yis hella achievement unlocked) which, sad to say is the best I've ever done lol.

    Some of the fights

I also beat up *generic inanimate object* too which someone has on film

    Damage was aight.

Well 2mm cheese was never gonna be much good. Flexed okay and it protected the belts. Lost my bearing retaining washers in the first fight so had to bodge with tape and massive steel ones towards the end.

The 6mm (bit pocketed) fared less well probably due to being a bit stiffer.

Newton punched thru it and killed a gearbox. Warped the whole panel. #rekd

So all in all, not bad but not too good either.

If you are that way inclined you can see a full build of the dang thing here http://bodgeitandhope.blogspot.co.uk...esbeetles.html

    Changes for v3

    - don't noob the bearing housings
    - slower, less powerful motor. The current draw was insane. I'm surprised my lipos didn't died
    - shorten the frame a tad, take weight out of stupid places and try and put it into some titanium armour.
    - make the electronics, drive especially not suck. Want some wasps ideally. But a new mixer and a new transmitter should keep it together for now.
    - more ground clearance

Also planning a horiz spinner using this disc

Its basically Ellis's robot but without the skill, execution or effectiveness. Current name for it is Red Wedding.

    Peace y'all.

Going on Dave's advice I machined up some washers for the beater. I'm pretty pleased with the result

Dave Weston's the best one to ask for that (Razerdave) because he's the one who has the arena!

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I'll be out of the UK and so won't be able to attend. Any idea when there will be one after this?

Hope to see you there if you can make it

Does anyone know when, and where, will be the next opportunity with an arena to fight beetleweights?

Thought so, putting pressure on a running high speed surface didn't feel like it would end well.

Cheers for the input on washers. I'll give that a go for now. Yeah next version I should have 12mm thick bulkheads, 10mm to house the bearings and then the 2mm to stop the stupid problem.

Got to be better than nothing at all and having your weapon destroy your own machine. Just giving some options

Fyi washer OD shouldnt be bigger than the OD of the inner race on the bearing.

Mk3 put the bearings on the inside face lol

Drill n tap the ends of the beater shaft and put a bolt and washer on to squeeze it all together.. will help stiffen up the chassis at the same time.

And yeah grubscrewing onto a bearing is a pretty nooby idea.

I don't particularity want to grubscrew onto bearings... it feels very notgood. I'll just add a plate to the bulkhead to stop it getting thrown outwards on the big hits. With stuff like Elvis's new horizontal I think any adhesives would fail.
